Here is the second part of my guide to the bands that will play at the 1234 Shoreditch Festival this year.
Raveonettes

The Raveonettes is another big name of the 1234 Shoreditch Festival. Perhaps the band I’m more looking forward to seeing live. Technically speaking their indie-pop-rock, soaked in gloomy atmospheres, with dark lyrics and naturally referring to the new wave movement and to the shoegaze psychedelia (Jesus and The Mary Chain), should be one of my favourite however, for some unknown reason, I never got to know this danish duo too much even though they’ve been around for almost 10 years. I’m listening to their last album (Raven in the Grave) and it’s really really good! Another unmissable gig.
This one below is War In Heaven, taken from their new album:

Echo Lake
To keep on this darkish and slightly sad mood we must go to see Echo Lake, on stage at 16.30.
Five piece from London that fills the ranks of this big new wave comeback, more on the side of the aforementioned Jesus and the Mary Chain but especially of the likes of Cocteau Twins.
Multiple layers of sound give shoegaze-y soil to let the reverbed voice of Linda Jarvis and the solo guitar creating the melodies. They need to be listened with heaphones to appreciate the tiniest shades of their sound, let see how they’ll do live.

Rayographs
I’ve been reading about the Rayographs for a while as their single Space of the Halls was all over the blogosphere, but that songs never really got me. Now that I’ve listened to the other tunes i need to say that this female trio from London is really good! I’m digging their garage blues, so dark, ethereal and urban. I like their dry sounds, drum and bass repeating few lines over and over again to allow the bittersweet voice and the guitar to work on the melodies, even ominous at times. Think of Patti Smith and Pj Harvey, but also to those artists Tarantino‘s good books like Shivaree and Urge Overkill. On the 2nd live stage from 1.30pm
This here is the video for the single but go listen to the other songs as they’re much better:
