Less than a week to the 1234 Festival, in the Shoreditchpark. A line-up of 50 odd bands for a full day of futuristic rock. This is my little guide, going through some of the bands so that we know what to expect.
The Black Lips

The Black Lips just released the 6th album. Six! And it’s like the world barely noticed. Nevertheless they’re headlining the 1234 Shoreditch Festival this year. Why? Listen to some of their tunes: they rock it out properly, sparkly like cherry cola. Think of late 60s + some californian punk-pop. The last album is produced by Mark Ronson, who cleaned up their sound a little but, hopefully, not their attitude.

Electricity in our homes

Another interesting band is Electricity in our homes, some young fellas from East London playing an interesting and chaotic alternative pop-rock dipping from some obscure sounds of the forgotten part of the early 80s. Their repetitive moments create the right tension to anticipate their more airy choruses. Check them out.
Hind Ear
A band I’m really looking forward to seeing on stage again is Hind Ear. I’ve been following them for a long time. Since when they were just a noise (and noisy band). Time made their sound grow with them and their music got much more cleared up and sophisticated. These guy have been playing together for such a long time that make all this work behind the songs sound very smooth. They play with rhythms and electronic sounds to the point that you can’s understand where some sounds are coming from and which instrument is keeping the beat and which is creating the melodies. It’s all mixed up to create something new and absolutely fascinating. If you don’t believe me you should read the review on Pitchfork.
You’re still on time if you want to buy tickets:

I would mention even The Raveonettes. Few years ago they were suppose to be “the next big thing”…
this is only the first of four parts for this little guide of mine. More has yet to come!
