In this morning of unwelcomed labour, burdened by last night’s aftermath, it’s been a real pleasure to be helped out by the Röyksopp.
Three songs, three singers, all of them scandinavian, all of them magnificent.
These songs join the elegance of the electronic brushwork made in Tromsø with the character of these three muses from the cold North.
The first is masterfully interpreted by Lykke Li, talented singer who’s now elbowing her way to the big musical audience with her new album. The song’s atmosphere reminds me a bit those european masters of electronic music such as Air and Stereolab.
The second song features Karin Dreijer Andersson, the unmistakable voice heard in The Knife (other half, with her brother, of the duo) and Fever Ray (her solo project), who always manages to make me feel a tingly sense of restlessness. Way more rocky with moments reminding Daft Punk, finishes majestically with a minute of unexpected splendour.
Third comes a great Norwegian classic, carrying intense emotions: You Don’t Have a Clue starring Anneli “Ice Eyes” Drecker. The chorus opening is that kind of perfection that electro-pop music has tried to read during the 90s. In vain.
